You’ll start your liberal arts and sciences major with courses in humanities and social sciences that will give you the background you need to investigate urban life through subjects such as history, philosophy, psychology and sociology.

The classes will apply theories and methods from these subjects to issues relevant to New York City, and they will take advantage of the city’s rich resources. Later courses in anthropology, economics and literature will give you different perspectives on such fundamental issues as power, race, class, gender and work. A final seminar will tie together your experiences from the two years, and you’ll have the option of doing an internship in line with your interests so you can see how social sciences and humanities apply in the workplace.
