We’re telling you up front: This is going to be a challenging major. It will require 69 credits and take at least two and a half years to complete.
We developed the program of study based on the accreditation standards of the American Health Information Management Association. You’ll take anatomy and physiology, statistics, a range of computer courses, and biomedical courses like pharmacology and medical terminology.
You’ll learn about issues ranging from data security to medical expense reimbursement to quality control. You’ll get prepared to use, analyze, present, code, store and retrieve health care data to support decision-making in hospitals, doctors’ offices and other health-related organizations. If you’re interested in eventually becoming a supervisor, we have a course in organizational resources and management.
